ROC Physical Therapy is the premier physical therapy clinic for active individuals and athletes in Rochester, NY

Physical Therapy

Integrated Neurological and Orthopedic Treatment Approach

Our approach is to assess & treat the whole body. This includes the local area of the pain or injury, the whole body as it supports that area, and the sensory and neurological systems that help us generate and control movement. Our focus is placed on merging the best of neuroscience strategies and musculoskeletal/orthopedic rehabilitation to treat pain and movement-related issues.

We understand that every client is different, which is why each client receives individualized 1-on-1 treatment with a Doctor of Physical Therapy for the entirety of each session.

Education is at the forefront of everything we do. We believe that you, as the client, should have a clear understanding of what is going on in your body as well as the “why” behind all of our treatment strategies.

ROC Physical Therapy offers sport-specific performance training and general fitness personal training in Rochester, NY

Sports Performance Training & General Fitness

Our goal with our performance training is to harness the nervous system and musculoskeletal system to improve strength, speed, and power. The focus will be placed on building quality control, both consciously and subconsciously, building quality force generation capabilities through the upper body, lower body, and core, and offer ways to increase the interaction between these layers to improve your performance. This is a great way to ensure clients/athletes maintain a high quality of movement and help reduce injuries in all aspects of life and sport.

Not an athlete but looking to stay fit? We also offer 1-on-1 general fitness training and instruction! Whether you are new to fitness or have been working out for years and just looking for a change, we can help!

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training

Blood Flow Restriction Training, or BFR, utilizes specialized cuffs to partially occlude arterial and venous blood flow to and from muscles, resulting in greater workload and stress to the muscles during rest and/or exercise. This allows us to achieve greater improvements in muscle strength and size with lower intensity exercise at times when higher intensity exercise is not possible due to injury, pain, or recent surgery. BFR can make early-rehabilitation much more effective by minimizing muscle atrophy and detraining. BFR can also be a terrific supplement to an existing training plan.

ROC Physical Therapy offers IASTM, also referred to as Graston Technique

IASTM

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, made popular with the Graston Technique, is utilized to alleviate symptoms associated with limited or painful motion, motor control issues such as coordination or muscle activation, and improve the body’s awareness of a particular area to improve muscle recruitment issues. Some of the common conditions that can be treated with IASTM are Achilles tendinosis, tendinopathies, IT band syndrome, rotator cuff injuries, and plantar fasciitis. These are just a few of the many injuries that IASTM can treat. IASTM is a tool we use to gain more benefit from our integrated hands-on and exercise-based approach.

ROC Physical Therapy uses cold laser therapy to treat pain, inflammation, and injuries

Cold Laser

Cold laser therapy is low-intensity laser therapy that stimulates healing while using low levels of light. The technique is called “cold” laser therapy because the low levels of light aren’t enough to heal your body’s tissue or cause harm. During this procedure, different wavelengths and outputs of low-level light are applied directly to a targeted area. The body tissue then absorbs the light. The red and near-infrared light causes a reaction, and the damaged cells respond with a physiological reaction that promotes regeneration. Cold laser is used to reduce pain and improve healing for muscle injuries, sprains, tendinitis, bursitis, and muscle spasms.

Cupping therapy on the shoulder in Rochester, NY

Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy is an ancient technique used in the treatment of pain and injury.

By using suction to expand tissues, cupping helps improve blood flow and tissue gliding in sore areas. When combined with movement-based therapies, cupping can expedite recovery.

Cupping also provides a novel stimulus to the nervous system which can allow for rapid changes in pain, range of motion, motor output, and movement quality.
